About my students in Elizabeth, NJ [#EYTeenspot]

“I learned as much from them as they did from me.” –George 2.0

This last week, I took a vacation. But you know me, even my vacations aren’t vacations. I left my touring life to spend the week in Elizabeth, NJ teaching and directing the students of the Elizabeth Youth Theatre Ensemble. This organization was founded by Theodore Perkins a friend and colleague of mine from New Jersey that I met at THE Morehouse College.

I worked with the Teen Spot two summers ago and was humbled to find that they are using the same script skeleton we created two years ago. They played a major role in my development of the TOTV curriculum, so needless to say I was more than anxious to spend time with them.

During the week we spoke about social responsibility and the need to monitor facebook and twitter usage in the wake of cyber and in school bullying. We spoke about the consequences of watching too much television. We wrote and produced choreo poems, television commercials and learned to over annunciate. We learned to Turn off the TV. [see above]

I will be sharing some of their work this week on this blog so “stay tuned”.

I’m so glad to see that EYTEENSPOT is being carried on through. I can honestly say it was a wonderful experience. I miss my time spent in the program Building Future Leaders and becomng a memeber to what is known as EYTEENSPOT. I hope to go by soon and recollect memories. I suggest this program to any teen who has the spare time and would want to become a leader. Its a experience that i would carry with me for the rest of my life. Best thing i enrolled myself into. I hope all goes well and look forward to a invite to the show when its all put together. Please keep me posted.
