Solitude vs Group Think
I had to remind myself today of a mantra I installed, instilled and insisted upon just a few short years ago. That is, “Even if you weren’t watching, I’d be doing this anyway.” I noticed that I had been juggling the quiet space I so longed for and the feedback that I believed I required as fuel for invention and creation. So, as I am likened to do, I wrote myself a quick letter:
Dear George 2.0,
You mustn’t share your process with people. You will come to expect too much from their responses, which will ultimately impede your ability to be free in creation. Some things should be kept until they are complete for fear that others’ evaluation of your yet unfinished product will become your own.
Sincerely, George 2.0
